The ventilation data (of a V/Q scan) are often useful in defining the lung border, aiding the detection of smaller peripheral perfusion defects. Furthermore, ventilation data provide additional informations about alternative cardiopulmonary conditions. Overall, the combination of ventilation and perfusion improves the specificity of the technique.
